Born and raised in Rome, Italy, Martina became passionate about food and desserts through her grandmother’s cooking. Throughout the years, she learned to appreciate the simplicity of Italian cuisine and its flavors. Her mother, a very talented artist, taught Martina about art and artistic expressions, so that she grew up drawing, painting, and sculpting. Eventually, she began to apply her imagination and creativity toward various forms of art.

After moving to the States, Martina graduated in Psychology at the New School in NYC, and proceeded to attend culinary school at the Institute of Culinary Education (ICE), ending her academic career at the French Culinary Institue (FCI) with a degree in Cake Techniques and Designs. Her passion for Cake Decorating began with an internship at a cake shop in NYC where Martina was amazed to see a sketch come to life in cake form.

Throughout the following years, during her studies, she worked in several kitchen settings, from restaurants to bakeries to hotels and catering companies. Finally, in 2013, Sugar Sketch was launched.

Martina’s work aims at combining Italian traditional flavor profiles with modern American designs. With the best quality ingredients and everything made from scratch (including a delicious marshmallow fondant!), the result is a memorable cake that is both beautiful and tasteful.
